BEMAC presents World Music Cafe: CUBANA FUEGO

21/10/2017 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

On 21 October, BEMAC’s final World Music Café of 2017 will bring a sultry bouquet of Cuban ‘son’, Latin Jazz, Afro groove and Flamenco to the Queensland Multicultural Centre.

Featuring the Sunshine Coast’s Canta La Tumba and acclaimed Brisbane duo Imaya, World Music Café: Cubana Fuego will summon the red-blooded soul of Cuban and Latin music for a night you won’t want to miss.

Inspired by the sounds of greats like the Buena Vista Social Club, Canta La Tumba  uses Spanish song, flamenco guitar, double bass, congas, drum kit and brass to evoke the haunting and playful vibe of the Havana bar and café scene. From energetic rhythms to nostalgic melodies, virtuosic playing and sentimental harmonies, Imaya combines Afro-Cuban rhythms with Flamenco to immerse audiences in a musical fever born of humid nights on the isle of Cuba, barefoot dancing on the streets of Spain,  love and broken hearts.

Canta La Tumba has been entertaining audiences with their upbeat and fiery music at notable events such as Woodford Folk Festival, FESTURI, Caloundra Music Festival, Nambour Moonlight Markets, Yandina Street Festival, U Tribe Festival, Maleny Music Festival and others.

Led by the vocal prowess of Susanna O’Leary and virtuosic flamenco guitarist Cameron de la Vega, Imaya have performed at Valley Fiesta, Queensland Conservatorium of Music and in 2016 were featured on BEMAC’s 2016 Echoes music compilation.

World Music Café: Cubana Fuego will take place at 7pm on Saturday, 21 October at Queensland Multicultural Centre. Tickets are $25 Full Price and $20 Concession.
