Brisbane International Jazz Festival presents: Marcus Strickland’s Twi-Life
09 Jun 2016 | Thursday 8:00pm to 9:30pm
Multi reedist/beatmaker and DownBeat Critic’s Poll winner Marcus Strickland has steadily proven to be an essential part of the jazz continuum since he stepped on the scene in the early 2000s.
His genre-bending propensity has produced fascinating and unconventional collaborations and this time around is no different. Between the members of his eclectic ensemble Twi-Life there is a wealth of experience in bands ranging from the Soultronics to Roy Haynes, Zhané, The Roots, Talib Kweli, Branford Marsalis, Bilal, Art Blakey, Lady Gaga, Kanye West, and countless others.
Strickland’s Twi-Life exceeds the traditional canon of music our generation has championed for the past 2 decades combining the musical stylings of America’s most innovative talents. The music itself is a hybrid of experience and experiments with classic albums like McCoy Tyner’s Trident blending into Strickland-produced beats reinterpreted into thick grooves by his monster rhythm section.
