BEMAC & QMusic introduce BIGSOUND scholarships for rising musicians of refugee background

Are you a rising musician who arrived in Australia on a humanitarian visa? Do you have the goods to take your career to new heights? To take your music international?

Thanks to our partnership with BIGSOUND and QMusic, BEMAC has 3 scholarships to bestow on up-and-coming, industry ready performing artists from refugee backgrounds, to attend the 2018 BIGSOUND Conference and Festival as delegates.

BIGSOUND is the biggest music conference in the Southern Hemisphere. It continues to cement its place on Australia’s cultural calendar as the event where tomorrow’s stars are uncovered, and the shape of future business is forged.

By day, BIGSOUND delivers an invaluable opportunity to meet new collaborators and learn from the best in the industry, both here in Australia, and from all over the world. The conference program presents ideas from some of the international music industry’s most revered and forward-thinking luminaries. Delegates have heard from and rubbed shoulders with the likes of Nick Cave, Neil Finn, Kim Gordon, Simon Raymonde (Bella Union / Cocteau Twins), Billy Bragg, Amanda Palmer, Peter Garrett, Michael Gudinski (Mushroom), Ben Lee, Seymore Stein (Sire), Michael Chugg, and Steve Earle. You never know who you will meet.

By night, BIGSOUND Festival runs across four nights throughout Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, showcasing the next big thing to fans, industry, and international tastemakers alike. Its massive artist line-up has been instrumental in uncovering names like Flume, Rufus, Courtney Barnett, Megan Washington, The Temper Trap, A.B. Original, Remi, Gang of Youths and more.

Launched in 2002 by industry development organisation QMusic, BIGSOUND’s community of musical innovation and togetherness now attracts over 1,300 conference delegates and an aggregate festival attendance of almost 14,000.

BIGSOUND 2018 will take place Sept 4–7.

To be considered for this scholarship, send an email expressing your interest to christiner@acsl.org.au, including your bio, recent promo photos and links to your music, by no later than Sunday, 5 August at 9pm.
