Launched in 2002 by industry development organisation QMusic, BIGSOUND is Australia’s leading new music festival and industry conference held annually in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley. BIGSOUND Festival runs over four days and nights across various venues in Fortitude Valley, showcasing the next big thing to fans, industry, and international taste-makers alike. The community of musical innovation now attracts over 1,300 conference delegates and over 6000 music fans from all over Australia and the world.

BEMAC is proud to be showcasing three up-and-coming artists from culturally diverse backgrounds at BIGSOUND 2017.

JESSWAR PORTRAIT hi resJesswar is an independent Brisbane-based Hip Hop Artist hailing from Fiji. At 22 she’s driven, hungry and proving it, having already toured with 360 and supported the likes of Tkay Maidza, David Dallas, Bliss N Eso, Allday, Akala and most recently Lady Leshurr. She is as ferocious as she is fearless and commands audiences when her hands are on the mic.

IMG_8713Matt Hsu is a one-person experimental orchestra playing over 20 instruments. Happily ‘off-trend’, he creates immensely evocative music without electronic sounds. Matt draws inspiration from his travels among Tibetan monks, crust-punks and New Orleans jazz musicians. He is a 2017 Queensland Music Awards nominated musician as a founding member of The Mouldy Lovers.

SK Simeon has been performing in Melbourne’s Reggae and Dancehall scenes since early 2011. SK Simeon takes on singjay style, which involves singing and toasting in Luganda and English, With his singjay vocal delivery, and mixture of comedic tone with conscious lyrics, SK Simeon summons a wholesome and energetic atmosphere wherever he performs.
