Fish Hooks & Moving Trees
BEMAC is hoping to develop a second Pacifika exhibition, given that Pacific Islanders are Queensland’s largest migrating group today. The exhibition will explore reasons for this exodus, the how, what, why, through what objects of cultural significance are already here to what Islanders bring with them. It is about how the meaning of material cultural objects changes. Fish Hooks looks at the transformation and the trans-formative power of significant visual arts in cultural heritage.
The exhibition builds on Her Hands community fibre project and explores Pacific nations as the Cook Islands, Kiribati, Nuie, Tuvalu, Tokelau and Tonga.
If you are from any of these communities and would like to participate in any way, please contact BEMAC curator Joan Winter firstname.lastname@example.org
