Guitarist and composer Anthony Garcia has a precious ability to blend colourful, improvised flair with a mastery of classical technique. His innate love of music shines with delight as he threads Latin folk with exploratory jazz, rhythmic percussion combined with the ethereal sounds he creates on his instrument. Garcia’s many and diverse cultural influences span from Texas to South East Asia, from Mexico to northern Australia, inspiring and dictating his unique and engaging style.
Continually composing new and exciting music for solo guitar alongside an ever increasing output of ensemble music, this year has seen the premier of several new works by Anthony including; City Scapes for Guitar, Piano, Soprano Saxophone and Cello performed at the opening concert of the Queensland Ballet’s Soiree Classique series, Ulysses Blue for Guitar Orchestra and Didgeridoo premiered in Townsville with The Townsville Guitar Orchestra and Didgeridoo legend William Barton, and Desert Stars Dancing for two guitars and Didgeridoo premiered at the Darwin Festival in 2009. Anthony was one of 12 composers from around the world to be invited to attend the Art Omi Music residency in New York in July/August 2009. This residency culminated in two public performances at both Omi and at The Roulette New York City.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
We love music and art. We believe it has the power to transform lives and communities. It brings people together, dissolves barriers and teleports us into distant lands by leading us into the very soul of culture.
