Nii Odai Nmai is an exciting multi-talented international musician and performer from the town of Nungua in Ghana, West Africa.
A spirited vocalist, flautist, drummer, percussionist and dancer, he was celebrated and awarded in Ghana for his traditional musical skills and toured internationally with the Kusun Ensemble before becoming a founding member and lead vocalist of the former Ghanaian touring group Wala, which created a cult following over its many tours of Australia.
Sharing a vibrant blend of traditional Ghanaian music and dance depicting the stories and rich heritage of his ancestors, along with his own refreshingly original
compositions, he brings past and present cultures to life in exhilarating performances featuring simultaneous playing of multiple flutes, soaring vocals, hand and stick drumming and percussion, and dance, capturing the spirit of Ghana and celebrating Africa.
As well as respecting, preserving and sharing his culture’s traditional music Nii Odai is, simultaneously, a modern artist, carving out his own place in the vibrant and pulsing Afrobeat genre, in which his talents as a singer-songwriter and engaging performer are garnering him legions of adoring and dedicated fans.
Most recently Nii Odai was the 2021 winner of the first ever Queensland final of African Australia’s Got Talent.
