Toko-Ton is a Brisbane based Japanese drum (taiko) group. Using a combination of movement and rhythm, playing modern and traditional songs and styles Toko-ton show how an instrument that was developed over 2,000 years ago can still very much connect and inspire audiences today.
The group is made up of 3 experienced taiko players, Chie Mason and Shinobu Takebata from Japan and Steve Mason from Australia. All 3 have trained under professional and distinguished Japanese taiko masters based both in Japan and Australia.
Since forming in 2012, Toko-ton have had the privilege of performing at some of Brisbane’s top locations and events, including the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, Hougaku Kikou, Lord Mayors Community Trust, Chinese New Year in Chinatown mall, Japan week in Queen St Mall, BrisAsia festival all over Brisbane including the Japanese gardens at Mt Coot-tha. Added to this, they have performed at many multicultural festivals, public, private and charity events.
