Submit your proposals for ‘A Stage Called Home’: BEMAC’s 2025 Artistic Program, including the BEMAC Live and BEMAC Unplugged series, as well as a special event for BrisAsia festival and a Creative Development in partnership with Metro Arts by Monday, October 21.

The invitation is open to individuals, bands, collectives, community groups and non-profit organisations. BEMAC will partner with artists and presenters to deliver the best possible show based on their proposals, supporting all technical, promotional, logistical and planning aspects of their shows. For this season, BEMAC will again be delivering works in other venues, among them VENTspace, the Thomas Dixon Centre, the Kingston Butter Factory, Studio 188, Metro Arts and Redland Performing Arts Centre.

Artists are invited to self-nominate their proposals for consideration in one or more of the following programming streams:
  • BEMAC Live is a professionally produced series of shows to be held at the Queensland Multicultural Centre and other venues across South-East Queensland, that seeks out new, original work that inspires and moves, in any performing artform including music, multi-arts, dance, theatre, film, etc, aiming is to elevate diverse artists and their artistry.
  • BEMAC Unplugged is a series of low-key shows that will showcase diverse talent and invite cross-cultural collaboration, in an intimate setting that aims to recreate the vibe of BEMAC’s shows at Yungaba. These will take place at venues in South-East Queensland, in a relaxed format with minimal technical resources.
  • BrisAsia is an annual festival that showcases contemporary and traditional Asian arts, and is one of Brisbane’s premier events for cultural placemaking, creative and artistic innovation and community wellbeing, celebrating our cultural and creative voice, our Asian cultural heritage and our place in the world. Produced by Sounds Across Oceans for Brisbane City Council, BrisAsia will run from 31 January to 9 February 2025. For more information visit soundsacrossoceans.com/brisasia-festival
  • Creative Development in partnership with Metro Arts, supporting a work in development, over 12 months, with a flexible platform, based on the needs of the project, to explore and interrogate the concept, engage with new collaborators, refine the production, mark a technical spec or make final adjustments toward being stage-ready. This residency will include a cash contribution toward the project, as well as venue access for rehearsal and development, industry showcasing and networking, and hands-on support from producers, technical staff and marketers from both Metro Arts and BEMAC.
Three programming principles underpin the Program:
  • Courageous in creativity – We aim to support artists at all career and development stages, whose creative and professional aspirations are solidly grounded on the creation of original work of the highest quality and relevance possible.ç
  • Determined in diversity – We aim to ensure that diverse stories, voices and expressions are duly represented and that they are embraced and welcomed into a platform of creativity, conversation and cross-pollination.
  • Enablers of change – We aim to drive positive social change towards the elimination of racism, discrimination and exclusion by fostering self-determination and cultural safety with the agency to freely express.
Proposals need to demonstrate a clear, original concept and respond to at least one of our programming principles, and a high level of artistic practice and a commitment to representing diverse voices, cultural identities and expressions.
