Connect with BEMAC:
Join us on Monday June 19 for BEMAC Discover, an open mic night to celebrate the importance of art, music and creativity in our lives and our community. This space will focus on sharing and testing out new work! We invite artists from all backgrounds and languages to showcase and share! Entry is free… bring your instrument, poem, monologue or dance and sign up to take part in the open mic at the door on arrival!
Each BEMAC Discover will feature guest performances from some incredible artists in our Brisbane community.
This month’s featured artist is SOLCHLD (Aurora Liddle-Christie), a Meanjin-based, Arrernte-Afro-Carribean multidisciplinary artist. Her music (SOLCHLD), spoken word poetry, performance and playwriting explored the liminal space she occupies in her experience. Addressing themes such as identity, decolonisation, healing, home and relationships. Aurora maps the journey as she walks it, offering the lessons learnt along the way.
This event will follow BEMAC Discussions: Memory, Nostalgia and Agency in Sharing the Personal, an engaging Panel Discussion on Monday June 19 that will delve into the fascinating realms of Memory, Nostalgia, and Agency in Sharing the Personal. As diverse artists, we often find ourselves in situations where we are asked to share our personal stories or create art that is deeply connected to memory and nostalgia. But how do we ensure our safety and preserve our agency in these settings? Live and streamed on Facebook Live.
