‘La Clave’ Global Fusion – Cuba

Presented by BEMAC in collaboration with the Thomas Dixon Centre, Global Fusion presents ‘La Clave’ Global Fusion – Cuba.
A vibrant and exciting evening of music, dance and food that takes audiences on a journey through the rhythms, sounds, songs, and movements inspired by the story of Cuba’s drums. Afro-Cuban drumming, singing & dancing are intertwined with stories about the Orishas, powerful spirits originating from Africa and reflected in the Afro-Cuban folkloric traditions as expressed via Santería.
Then experience an escape to the ultimate Havana night with the sights, sounds and flavours of Cuba! Where the Son, Cha Cha Cha and Bolero become synonymous with Cuba.
Be swept away by this Cuban experience with the exhilarating rhythmic music and dance performed by an ensemble of talented musicians, with Kent Windress and David Allen in Afro-Cuban Percussion, Nelson Mansilla on guitar and Cuban Tres, the captivating voice of Ovidio Orellana, Glenn Minto on trumpet, Vicente Perez on electric guitar and Cuban Tres, Gustavo Colmenares on Double bass providing the frame on which dance and movement will paint a colourful performance by the hands of Afrekete, a dance ensemble promoting authentic Cuban culture through dance, music and art, with Cuban dancers Maygualida Rodriguez, Mariesly Paradelo, Israel Ortiz and Christina Monneron.
Be transported by ‘La Clave’, a show inspired by the “Clave”, the heartbeat and soul of Cuban rhythms.

The evening will also feature new dance works choreographed by Global Fusion Curator Rani Luther for dancers Yasim Coronado Veranes, former Queensland Ballet Principal Artist Camilo Ramos, and Principal Artist Yanela Pinera.
