Brisbane City Council’s Art Bites – Africa is a programme of free arts workshops designed for all Brisbane residents to explore the traditions of the African continent and discover their creative abilities. Learn West African drumming, create delicious Eritrean meals or shake your hips to the wild dance of The Congo. These workshops are for everyone. Grab a friend or make new ones while discovering the colourful nations of Africa!
EGYPTIAN BELLY DANCE
From Egypt’s south to its north-west, this fun and interactive workshop will cover three completely different styles of traditional dance and an introduction to the culture, music and beautiful costumes.
Facilitator – MERICE BRIFFA
Merice (Meresankh) Briffa is an experienced bellydance teacher. She is the only teacher in Brisbane who is qualified to teach the world renowned A-Z Belly Dance System. Merice has a lifelong background in Classical Ballet. Her enthusiasm and joy of bellydance are communicated to students in every class. She recently resided in Egypt, and has studied with many Egyptian teachers.
