BEMAC 25th Birthday
02 Mar 2013 | Saturday
BEMAC celebrates its 25th birthday with an evening of world music showcasing favourites of the multicultural scene in Brisbane, many of whom have held a close relationship with BEMAC over these 25 years. Wear your party clothes and be ready to toast the next 25 years of diverse arts in Queensland!
So let’s toast and blow the candles together while we experience the soaring melodies of the Middle East with driving rhythms and heart-wrenching vocals from Dijla, the joy of the Latin moves and the intricacy of South Indian dance with Rio Rhythmics and Sulagna Basu. Get inspired by the revolutionary Indigenous artist Tjupurru and new wave music from Zimbabwe played on mbira by Tichawona Noble Mashawa. Give a feast to your senses with the exquisite music from the traditional Sufis of Anatolia sung by Feridun Avar, and the exciting drumming from West Java played by the Ethnotik Trio; along with the evocative improvisations from the winds and percussion of Linsey Pollak and Tunji Beier. And last but not least, enjoy the dancing and martial arts of Xango Capoeira who sums up this whole experience by saying “first you must learn to play by the rules, then you must forget the rules and play from your heart.”
By joining us in such special occassion you are also contributing to this great organisation and its mission promoting the multicultural arts in Queensland for another 25 years!!
