BEMAC presents World Music Cafe: New Generation

22/04/2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

On April 22, the new generation of contemporary Brisbane musicians of Asian heritage is going to be served up hot at BEMAC’s World Music Café: New Generation.

Performing live will be Brisbane-based, Malaysian-born singer, songwriter and producer May Lyn, with her distinct vocals and lush, unique sonic aesthetic, which has been dubbed Atmospheric Future R&B. With thought-provoking lyricism and fresh ingenuity, May Lyn crafts a delicate balance of minimal hip hop beats, mixed with atmospheric textures and ethereal vocals.

Brisbane’s emerging songbird Noralyn brings her evocative lyrics and melodious hooks to this unique World Music Cafe. With comparisons to Tori Amos and Kate Bush, Noralyn’s immersive melodies are brought to life by an emotive voice and distinct piano-driven sound that reveals hints of classical influence among pop sensibilities.

Founding member of Brisbane’s gypsy-infused caravan The Mouldy Lovers and 2017 Queensland Music Awards finalist Matt Hsu rounds out the New Generation line-up with his multi-layered compositions that he plays and records himself from an inventory that includes a trumpet, accordion, clarinet, kitchen utensils, trombone, flugelhorn, euphonium, mbira, marimba, double bass, shakuhachi, tin whistle, furulya, banjo and found objects.

Performances start at 7pm, with the door and box office opening at 6:30pm. Come be blown away by the New Generation of contemporary Brisbane-Asian sounds at our first World Music Café of 2017.
