BEMAC and Sounds Across Oceans present The Autumn Music School at QMC

Bringing Worlds Together Through Music…

Open to all ages, styles and instruments, Sounds Across Oceans and BEMAC present the AUTUMN MUSIC SCHOOL at the Queensland Multicultural Centre.

Running over four days at the Queensland Multicultural Centre, from Tuesday, April 4 to Friday, April 7, the Autumn Music School brings together outstanding teaching artists from diverse stylistic and cultural backgrounds to offer mentorships and guidance in the art of improvisation, experimentation, collaboration and composition.

This inclusive and unique educational program that will run from 9AM to 3PM daily is streamed at school-aged children and is suitable for all ages, musical styles and instruments.

Creator Anthony Garcia said his aim was to establish a framework for exploring the boundless nature of music while having lots of fun in the process.

“The program embraces the cultural background, stylistic tastes and enthusiasms of all participants by building ideas together through collaboration, improvisation and stylistic experimentation,” he said.

Sounds Across Oceans (SAO) is a music organisation established by composer/educator Dr. Anthony Garcia to explore and promote a more holistic vision of music and its role in society.  Through innovative education programs, workshops, presentations and performances that focus on collaboration, improvisation and experimentation SAO builds bridges between genres, cultures and communities.

The partnership between BEMAC and SAO is an opportunity for musicians to team up with some of Queensland’s finest teaching artists. It will bring together young aspiring musicians, world music specialists, innovative jazz and classical musicians to thread musical forms and sounds from across the globe to create new music.

The four day program will culminate in a special performance giving young people the opportunity to perform to new audiences.

Cost for the program is $304.04, which is payable upon registration.

“Sounds Across Oceans enabled me to harness my songwriting and creative skills resulting in the release of my first EP. The mentors Anthony and Deb were incredibly inspirational and supportive throughout the entire process, and I highly encourage anyone who wants to explore their inner creativity to participate.”  Molly Waters / Student

“It taught me lots about other instruments and how my instrument fits into the world of music.”  Rosie / Student

“The kind of exposure SAO gave my daughter was brilliant and instrumental (pardon the pun) in inspiring her to be really get into her practice this year so she could have the basics to explore and experiment with.” Michelle Hildebrand / Mother
