Get on board a journey through the cultural tapestry of Queensland

As part of Queensland’s largest celebration of our multiculturalism and the depth within our diversity, Culture Train 2016 will be a travelling performance unlike any other. It will traverse the countryside taking its collective of traditional and contemporary music and performance arts from a myriad of cultures to regional Queensland locations.

Featuring seven world-renowned artists from ethnically diverse backgrounds, audiences will be able to immerse themselves in a unique cultural and musical experience, as the program of free concerts makes its way to 16 regional communities across the state, including Murgon, Goondiwindi, Roma, Wallumbilla, Barcaldine, Townsville and Rockhampton.

The performing artists are: Tenzin Choegyal, Mario Celestino Conde, Tichawona Noble Mashawa, Dheeraj Shrestha, Ruth Ghee, Sudha Manian, Kiri Waiata.

The troupes will be performing at a number of festivals throughout Multicultural Month including Central Highlands Multicultural Festival, Rockhampton Cultural Festival, and the Townsville Cultural Festival. In addition to the performances, free workshops will also be held in schools and community centres.

The regional tour provides an excellent opportunity to promote the eight principles of the Multicultural Queensland Charter to regional Queensland.

With key themes of the month including the value of diversity, arts and culture, elders and storytelling, the tour drives home the message of harmony and inclusion as it showcases the emerging local talents Queensland has to offer while bringing people in regional communities together for a spectacular celebration of Queensland and its cultural diversity.

The tour will culminate in a final performance on August 31 at Brisbane’s Queensland Multicultural Centre for Diversity@Dusk, the closing event for Queensland Multicultural Month.
