BEMAC and Tenzin Choegyal Present: Himalayan Film Festival 2016

The Himalayan Film Festival will give audiences a deeper understanding of the unique heritage, culture and issues confronting the region whilst exploring the majestic beauty of the Himalayas and the spirit of its people. In its third year, the festival will showcase a diverse list of films which explore themes of compassion, pilgrimage, occupation, love, peace, migration, environmental justice and human rights.

Tibetan Community of Brisbane will offer delicious Tibetan food for purchase on both evenings.

When: November 24th – 25th 2016

The Dalai Lama has achieved rock-star status and many spiritual seekers have turned to him and many Tibetan masters for answers to today’s pressing conflicts and concerns.

One such Tibetan master is Gelek Rimpoche.  Born into the aristocracy, he trained as a traditional monk but was forced to flee in 1959.  He has lived an extraordinary life spanning continents, customs, and cultures.  No longer in monks robes, now a citizen of the United States, Gelek Rimpoche finds a new title:  American Rimpoche.

World Music Café: Short Films + Tibet2Timbuk2

Rollicking Tibetan folk, afro-reggae guitar grooves and intricate Indian tabla….Sounds as if they were made for each other!

This year, BEMAC is thrilled to partner with The Himalayan Film Festival to co-present World Music Café in an evening of inspiring short films and a concert with the ever popular, Tibet2Timbuk2. Together, Tenzin Choegyal, Marcello Milani and Shen Flindell create a new joyful sound that transcends cultural boundaries.

Winners of the Short Film Competition of the Tibetan Film Festival in Dharamsala, India will be screened before the concert.  Be inspired with The Half Bread, Sipen, The Sweet Hunger and Momo.
