Iranian Film Festival Australia 2014
09 Oct - 12 Oct 2014 | Thursday
Iranian Film Festival Australia 2014 brings us the best of contemporary Iranian cinema.
IFFA 2014 returns to Brisbane with the best and most interesting contemporary Iranian cinema for the 4th year. This year the programme reflects the new political scenario around Iran’s film industry with enthusiasm. Whereas last year the programme featured masters and veterans, this year the emphasis is on young cinema with many first- and second-time directors.
IFFA 2014 Iranian Film Festival Australia 2014 is proud to open with I’m Not Angry, which premiered at this year’s Berlinale and features Reza Dormishian (Hatred 2012). This is a tragic love story set against the vividly painted political and social constraints of the Green Movement. The festival closes with Fish and Cat, a single take horror film with no violence! The edgy Kami’s Party and 13, and the elegiac Snow are all debut features inscribed by contemporary issues. From established directors come two wonderful films about families – Maziar Miri’s The Painting Pool along with Kianoush Ayari’s The Paternal House. The delightful evergreen Haji Washington (1982)screens with a small gem, the pre-Revolutionary short P for Pelican, from Parviz Kimiavi.
