Internationally acclaimed Japanese Drum Master, Mikita Hase is travelling direct from Japan for this “one show only” performance. Often described as a world where music meets martial arts, Taiko is seen as the heartbeat of Japan. The audience will be taken on a journey through a variety of original and traditional compositions, showcasing the mind-blowing talent of this Taiko powerhouse, Mikita Hase.
The Japanese term “Live” or “Live House” refers to Japanese live music venues and is the backbone of the Japanese underground live music scene. With a minimal set up and intimate setting, the focus is on the raw talent of the artist. Hase brings this Japanese cultural concept to Brisbane with “TAIKO LIVE”.
Born in Shizuoka, Japan, Hase began playing Taiko at age 8. By age 23 he formed the Taiko group “Ryu-In Daiko” and was composing Taiko songs, teaching Taiko and competing in national Taiko competitions.
Hase started his professional carrier in 1998. In 2000 he formed Taiko ensemble unit “Yo-Soro” and has had countless concerts and live performances all through Japan, USA, Europe, Asia, Middle East and Africa.
Eitetsu Hayashi is the worlds most respected Solo Taiko Master, being the pioneer of the solo Taiko performance. For the past 16 years Hase has toured around the world as one of the main players of Eitetsu’s ensemble “Fu-Un no Kai”.
Around the world Hase is highly respected as an innovator of the art form by collaborating with the likes of Kabuki actors, Jazz musicians, Classic symphonies, DJs, samurai sword performers, Spanish dance companies, Butoh dance companies and much more.
Hase continues teaching how to play Taiko, including the history the of Taiko and Japanese culture to children & adults, amateurs & professionals, groups and personal all over the world.
