PFF and BEMAC present Panguna & Power Meri

BEMAC  is proud to partner with Pasifika Film Fest (PFF) on its return to the Australian film festival circuit in 2018. PFF showcases a variety of Pacific cinematic content, showcasing the diversity of storytelling through the eyes of talented creatives from across Oceania.

This selection of short films raise discussions about life in the Pacific.

Sydney emerging filmmaker Carmen Smith’s film Panguna will debut on the film festival circuit with a personal story that investigates how Veronica (Smith’s mother) navigated her way through conflict with a white Australian husband on one side, a warring village deep in the islands of Papua New Guinea rebelling against a gold and silver mine and her family’s disapproval of
her new found love.

Carmen Smith (2017)

In the midst of a civil war a woman is torn between her childhood and her future. The strength of her family continues to drive her through all her troubles.

Power Meri follows Papua New Guinea’s first national women’s Rugby League team, the PNG Orchids, on their journey to the 2017 World Cup in Australia.
