Planet: Sept Saturday Sessions with Ailan Traks
01 Sep 2012 | Saturday
Do you have a taste for the exotic but can’t afford a world trip? That’s ok. We’re bringing the world to you.
September Planet will transport you to the beautiful island sounds of Australian’s northerly territories, Torres Strait Islands.
Ailan Traks wishes to take you on a tour: a journey through time to the beautiful isles of the Torres Straits and share the melodic vibrancy of its culture through song. Listen to the drum – the heart beat and soul of its culture… Come on a musical cruise; on an odyssey of entertainment to capture your senses and musical rhythm.
Ailan Traks is a collective of dynamic Torres Strait Islander art practitioners who are committed to adding TSI works to the Australian arts landscape. In this performance, Ailan Traks is represented by the beautiful melodic songstresses’ Ruth Ghee and Georgia Corowa, rhythmist Bridget Garay who’s drumming is the heart-beat of the show, guitarist and vocalist Daniel Dow and singer, Luke Captain.
The beautiful music brings to you the vibrant sounds of the Torres Strait showcasing a snippet of the forth coming showcase entitled “Taba Naba: An Island Odyssey”, which tells of the historical significance of the Torres Strait Island and interwoven stories told through songs.
