Rebirth – New Dates!
06 Feb 2015 | Friday 7:30pm to 9:30pm
Explore the lives of Middle-Eastern women; their aspirations, obstacles, restrictions and freedoms through the creative imaginings of Shirin Majd as she leads a cast of creative talent combining contemporary music, visual arts, dance and the dissident poetry of Forough Farrokhzad ( فروغ فرخزاد January 5, 1935 — February 13, 1967); one of Iran’s most influential and controversial female poets of the twentieth century.
This work will explore Forough Farrokhzad’s poetry in both Farsi and English. “Forough’s poems have always been precious to me, and they have influenced the way I see my life. It was a revelation to me, that her poems beat love and rebellion in my veins.”
“The dancing in my blood and poems on my lips were enhanced by the artistic composition of Mahyar Alizadeh, Vahid zardey, Basir faghih nasir. What you are going to hear is from our hearts” Shirin Madj – Creator.
A real treat. Comprising brand new compositions by Mahyar Alizadeh, Vahid Zardey and Basir Faghih Nasir, joined by Sweet Sound Ensemble’s Padraig Parkhurst; the music adds to the canvas of colour and imagery created by visual artists Atousa Salehpou, Farnaz Dadfar and Mahkam; painting the story, beautifully told through the voice of Shirin and the choreography and dance of Vanessa Mafé-Keane.
Sweet Sounds’ usual instrumentation will be enriched by clarinet, piano and tar, exploring the deep emotional connections between Eastern and Western music.
