Singout Sista – Sounds of Bulgaria with Zhiva Voda and Silvia Entcheva.
08 May 2015 | Friday 7:30pm to 9:30pm
Journey with us and experience the diversity of stunning female ‘voices’ featured in our Singout Sista concert series, celebrating the strength, beauty and creativity of women in music.
The first show of this series is Sounds of Bulgaria with Zhiva Voda and Silvia Entcheva who will present Bulgarian folk songs in rich and varied harmonies and asymmetric beats, accompanied by traditional instruments — the gaida (sheepskin bagpipe), gadulka (bowed lute) and clarinet. Themes include love, family, the Ottoman dominion and liberation, and nature.
Masters of Bulgarian folk music, Reni Pavlova-Bojilov, George Gaydov and Ann Bermingham truly represent the nature of Zhiva Voda, which in translation means living magical water, with their deeply moving and unforgettable performances.
An extraordinary vocal talent performing soul warming music from all regions of Bulgaria. Former member of Le Mystere Des Voix Bulgares and the Martenitsa Choir, Silvia has won many awards including Female Artist of the Year in 1999 and 2000. One of the most vibrant Bulgarian Folk music artists in Australia, she has performed at Woodford Folk Festival, Sydney Festival and Melbourne Festival to name a few.
