Ipswich High’s dance program levels up through RASN funding
As RASN Provider for Ipswich, BEMAC is thrilled to have partnered with Ipswich State High School (ISHS) to support and develop their next generation of dancers.
The dance program at ISHS has been running for just over 15 years, and has been recognised as a program of excellence for the last five. At engages with 300 students of the 1700 students currently enrolled at the school in various class and extra-curricular programs.
The program works with students in a number of areas with curriculum subjects; an Ipswich Jets Cheerleading Team; musicals; concerts; eisteddfod teams; boot camps and various workshops delivered throughout the school year. It also offers senior students the option to complete a Certificate I, II or III in Dance and works on preparing students for jobs in the dance sector and creative industries.
The extension team is invited each year to attend the mid-year dance camp, in order to expand their experience with dance. In previous years, the school has attended workshops in Sydney and competed in the Sydney Eisteddfod. In 2019 the squad will be attending the Australian Dance Festival in September.
BEMAC’s investment in the program will enable the school to offer scholarships to students who may be experiencing financial barriers in accessing it, as well as diversify the program through by engaging external professional guest dance instructors to choreograph and provide various skill development opportunities to students.
