BEMAC have been very busy! Firstly, we were honoured to attend the Queensland Music Award and announce the winner of the World Music Category. A big congratulations to Luke, who took the gong for his beautiful song, Panini Fandango. Aside from world musicians, there were so many incredible musicians in the room representing the breadth of Queensland talent in all music genres and it was uplifting to think this is the exciting future for music in this state. Q Music, one of our major partners, did a fantastic job of hosting the event and we really had a lot of fun listening to great music and of course talking way too much.
Last night BEMAC attended Indian Independence Day at the QLD Conservatorium and what a celebration! A buffet of delicious food and wonderful music, we were delighted to join in the festivities. This day coincided with a preview of the Encounters India project that The Con will be presenting next year, so please look out for more news of this enormous, colourful and high quality music event.
Planet this August was a very successful day. A big thank-you to Made Denis, the Gold Coast Balinese Gamelan Group, Efiq Zulfiqar and Judith Shelley for the very entertaining concert. There was an enthralled audience in attendance and coinciding with the Pasar Rakyat festival, the day was pure Indonesia. A few days later, visiting Indonesian dance company, Nan Jombang, performed their newly created show, Tarian Malam as part of the Planet World Music and Dance Programme at the Powerhouse. It was a truly remarkable performance full of beauty, athleticism to the constant power of the drums . The show portrayed the terror and destructive force of the earthquake in Sumatra in 2009.
Our two ticketed Planet shows at the Powerhouse, Sacred World featuring Oscar & Marigold and Cold Classik Odds with Impossible Odds, Classik Nawu and Cold Water Band will be on sale very soon, so don’t miss out on a ticket.
