David Carberry
A graduate of the prestigious Flying Fruit Fly Circus School, David Carberry has been a dynamic force in the performing arts industry since 2001. At 21 he became a foundational member of CIRCA, serving as co-creator and ensemble member until 2008, establishing CIRCA internationally.
An original member of Briefs international, David co-founded Company 2 in 2013. Under his leadership, Company 2 expanded to employ up to 30 people and performed over 250 international shows, reaching an audience of over 80,000 globally in 2017 alone, and his award winning production Scotch & Soda performed over 500 times, across 12 countries.
In 2019-2020, worked as both Creative Producer for Gold Coast Theatre company Shock Therapy Productions, and for independent performing arts venue the Sideshow West End . Expanding networks and opportunities for Shock Therapy, and delivering a 6 month program of performing arts at the Sideshow.
Following a 2019 tour of Helpmann nominated production Underground across India, this continued through 2020 with online initiatives with the Pickle Factory (Kolkata), live streams to schools, and to Tata LitLive festival Mumbai.
In November 2021, David was appointed as the Director of F5 Festival in New York, a cutting-edge three-day multi-venue event conference in Manhattan. Since April 2022, David has been at the helm of Wynnum Fringe Festival. As Executive Producer he has overseen the growth of the festival, engaging over 1500 arts workers, injecting over $3m into the local economy, with over 65,000 attendees. This work was recognised with the Gold Matilda Award for service to the arts and events in QLD in 2022.
David also recently stepped back on the stage to collaborate with Gold Coast Dance Theatre company The Farm on their work Stunt Double which won Best Ensemble and Best Physical Theatre production at the Matilda Awards in 2023.
