As the current season unfolds and reveals the powerful new work that emerged from the last callout for proposals, BEMAC opens up a new round of proposals for shows in the second half of 2024 as part of the BEMAC Live and BEMAC Unplugged series, as well as a special show for Melt Open festival.

The second season of our 2024 program will include up to five BEMAC Live shows, up to four BEMAC Unplugged shows and one show during Melt Open. The invitation is open to individuals, bands, collectives, community groups and non-profit organisations. You don’t need to be incorporated, but you will need an ABN and current Public Liability Insurance at the time of the event in order to be part of our program. If you don’t have an ABN or PLI, talk to us about it.

We will partner with you to deliver the best possible show based on your proposal. BEMAC will cover all production and venue costs, and offer a guaranteed artist fee, which will depend on the scope and complexity of your proposal. We will work with selected applicants to support the technical, promotional, logistical and planning aspects of their show. The production will need to be delivered within the technical parameters of the venue. The selected proposals may also include limited theatre access for rehearsal.

  • BEMAC Live is a professionally produced series of shows to be held at the Queensland Multicultural Centre and other venues across South East Queensland. We are looking for proposals for work that inspires and moves, in any performing art form including music, multi-arts, dance, theatre, film, etc. Our aim is to elevate diverse artists and their artistry. We are particularly excited by work that examines discourses and perceptions on multiculturalism, migration and identity, leveraging the arts as a platform in which to pose difficult questions, challenge entrenched ideas and enable change.
  • BEMAC Unplugged is a series of low-key shows that will showcase diverse talent and invite cross-cultural collaboration, in an intimate setting that aims to recreate the vibe of BEMAC’s shows at Yungaba. These will take place at various venues in South East Queensland, in a relaxed format with minimal technical resources.
  • Melt Open is a new citywide open-access festival of Queer arts and culture festival that showcases LGBTQIA+ art, artists, allies, icons, sport and ideas. Produced by Brisbane Powerhouse, Melt Open will run from 23 October to 10 November 2024. For more information visit meltopen.org

Three programming principles underpin the Program:

  • Courageous in creativity – We aim to support artists at all career and development stages, whose creative and professional aspirations are solidly grounded on the creation of original work of the highest quality and relevance possible.
  • Determined in diversity – We aim to ensure that diverse stories, voices and expressions are duly represented and that they are embraced and welcomed into a platform of creativity, conversation and cross-pollination.
  • Enablers of change – We aim to drive positive social change towards the elimination of racism, discrimination and exclusion by fostering self-determination and cultural safety with the agency to freely express.

Proposals need to demonstrate a clear, original concept and respond to at least one of our programming principles, and a high level of artistic practice and a commitment to representing diverse voices, cultural identities and expressions.

We love music and art. We believe it has the power to transform lives and communities. It brings people together, dissolves barriers and teleports us into distant lands by leading us into the very soul of culture.
