Connect with BEMAC:
‘Journey Home’ is Kaya Tominaga’s debut feature-length show, developed and performed in collaboration with UQ Taiko. It follows the artists as they encounter obstacles in their search for home. Along the way, they endure the discomfort of never quite fitting in, savour the surprise of finding footing in other cultures and juggle how to stay connected to their heritage while paving their own unique cultural paths. Ultimately they discover that the journey home is actually a journey to find people who accept and nurture them.
Kaya Tominaga is a composer and multi-instrumentalist with a wistful, stirring voice who has also been performing as a Taiko drummer since 2013, learning from teachers across Australia and Japan.
Together with the UQ Taiko ensemble, they have performed at Woodford Folk Festival, Yonder Festival and Jungle Love Festival and have collaborated with Tenzin Choegyal and Queensland Ballet for the ‘Be the Mountain’ and ‘Be the Ocean’ concerts.
Presented in partnership with VENTspace.
