A rare glimpse into the spiritual facets of Afro-Cuban music and dance, a living cultural expression often overshadowed by an exoticised image of Cuba. Featuring the rarely heard batá drums and a world-class cast of dancers, traditional practices and contemporary interpretations forge a modern Cuban-Australian identity.
A musical program that will take you on a journey through the experience of two extraordinary musicians who made her way to Australia from their birthplace in Bangladesh: Rozana Azad and Avijit Sarkar’s melodies will explore themes of separation, hope, joy and love that are integral to the migration experience.
